Since its inception, Big Red Toolbox has quickly expanded and carefully selected its range to include in excess of 30,000 tools and accessories, ranging from home decorating to petrol generators. We continually add to and diversify our product range, making Big Red Toolbox one of the fastest growing tool retailers in the UK.

We work with the biggest manufacturers to ensure our comprehensive range covers everything you could need - from domestic to professional use.

We are extremely focused on building positive relationships with the manufacturers and suppliers we regularly deal with, which often allows us to get access to offers and new products ahead of our competitors. Additionally, we are constantly checking and re-checking pricing to make sure our prices remain the lowest, but if you do find something cheaper, let us know and we'll do our best to match or beat it. Our Service

As well as our ongoing commitment to improving our range, website and customer service, we are constantly analysing our customer’s shopping experiences to fine-tune our operation and ensure that our continued success is based on the satisfaction of the most important people we come into contact with - our customers.

To improve our customers shopping experience we have recently updated our website - simplifying navigation, improving search, and refreshing our range to make it quicker easier to find products and deals.

Currently, we deliver well in excess of 99% of our orders within the estimated time-frame found on each product page, and our average wait for telephone support is around 3 rings. We are constantly refining our processes and methods of doing business to improve this even further.

Our Team

Our quickly growing, dynamic team is dedicated to providing excellent service; working together across different departments to ensure all areas of the customer experience is optimised.

Team Members

Richard O’Connor - CEO & Founder

Armed with only a PC and a desk, Richard founded Big Red’s first company, Capital Stores, in 2007, in his spare bedroom with a range of only 5 products.

Today, Richard leads the board and drives the group’s strategy, as well as overseeing day-to-day running. He also maintains a very active involvement in the trading/commercial side of the group.

Alex Hunter - CFO

Prior to heading up Finance at Big Red, Alex operated in many senior commercial roles, including FD of both Thomas Cook Airlines and Britannia Airways. Alex orchestrated the start-up of Thomsonfly for TUI before moving into ecommerce as FD of MyProtein, the online sports nutrition brand, in 2008. Sales grew from £4m to £28m during his tenure, before being sold to The Hut Group in 2011 for a reported £58m.

Brett Walker - CTO

Brett has a long and diverse career in IT, web and software development, including his own web development agency, before joining the group in 2010. Brett is ultimately responsible for all technical operations and staff in the group, including both front and backend development and management. A ‘commercial coder’, he is the conduit between the commercial and technical elements of the business.

Andrew Gilbert - Head of Operations

Andrew’s 20 year career in Operations started in food logistics, working in senior roles at both Londis and Whitbread. In 2009 he joined MyProtein as Head of Operations, ultimately joining the board. He oversaw a 400% increase in production and order volumes, 3 site moves and expansion into 5 new territories during his time there.

At Big Red he heads up all operational activity, including our 3PL offering.

Sam Farhall - Trading Manager

Sam is our Trading Manager, a broad role that involves driving and coordinating all elements of trading within the group and ensuring the smooth running of a complex department.

Before joining Big Red in 2012, Sam spent 5 years at Littlewoods, part of Shop Direct Group. Through his time there he rose through a number of positions, including the roles of Content Manager and Online Sales & Development Manager, overseeing annual growth in excess of 100% through Shop Direct’s marketplace channels, including the Very and Littlewoods Clearance stores.

Dan Lonsdale - Category Dev. Manager

Dan has worked in a number of sales and marketing roles during his career, including selling multi-million pound hardware and software roll-outs to retailers and banks for De La Rue Cash Systems. Dan’s most recent role before joining Big Red was at FedEx Express where he was responsible for managing and growing multi-million pound accounts across the North-West.

At Big Red, Dan identifies and develops new category opportunities for the group, handling supplier relationships, to supply chain, to branding, through to launch.

Ben Bailey - Retail Analyst

We generate a lot of data these days, and Ben is responsible for turning that data into actions, overseeing pricing strategies, operational metrics, supplier compliance and more.

During his 15 year career, Ben has held analytical roles at companies including Amazon, Woolworths and HMV. His experience includes reverse logistics, productivity analysis and merchandising. At Amazon he worked at the heart of the organisation in the Books category, working on a multitude of projects including stock availability improvements, process automation and demand planning.
